OVER ONS

ALL HISTORY IN

BERGEN OP ZOOM

We would like to invite you to enjoy what we like to call,

the most beautiful view of the Grote Markt!

Across the street is the Medieval Old Town Hall, which is a

amalgamation of three separate buildings.

In 1611 the town hall was given a new facade,

built of Gobertange stone.

The saying 'Mille Periculis Supersum' (I will overcome a thousand dangers) is a reminder of the city's role in the Eighty Years' War.

Hotel de Draak (formerly De Draeck) is the hotel located on the

left side of town hall.

It is the oldest hotel in the Netherlands, located in a building from 1500.

The barrel-vaulted cellars still date from the 14th-century building.

(Terenkamer Den Noort)

At the end of the 15th century, Bergen op Zoom had grown from a simple port to a prominent trading center.

Due to its prosperity, the city could even afford its own inn. As a result, the city council had a large location set up on the south side of the Grote Markt where the Bergenaren

“Inne banquets (parties) would take place as he pleases”.

The inn was named Teercamer Den Noort and was opened on 10 May 1505 by Jan III van Glymes, Lord of Bergen op Zoom.

The Teercamer became a lively meeting point in the heart of the

medieval city, through which citizens and merchants drank, ate and partied exuberantly.

Half a century later, the inn went down in the turmoil of the Eighty Years' War.

With the Teerkamer of today, Bergen op Zoom has regained its old meeting point for young and old.

"Great food for a good price, that's what I stand for."

Chef Olivier

“Good food for a good price, that's what I stand for. I was born and raised in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and finished hotel school in Bergen op Zoom. Over the past 15 years I have worked in various restaurants all over Brabant. Now I have returned to beautiful Bergen op Zoom.”

“Together with restaurant manager Errol, we are creating a great concept in which we want to welcome a wide audience. Our goal is to cook high in the mid-market.

Our restaurant menu lends itself to fine dining. Here you can enjoy an evening-filling program with several surprising courses.

Our brasserie menu and lunch menu are aimed at a more informal atmosphere.”
